Kolkata Beckons

Established as one of Singapore’s Heritage Brands, Komala Vilas traces its roots back to Mr. Murugiah Rajoo, who, at the age of 16, journeyed from Tamil Nadu, India, to Singapore in 1936. He initiated the practice of serving vegetarian meals on fresh banana leaves, adhering to culinary traditions from Tamil Nadu. The menu has since expanded to include authentic dishes from both South and North India. Preserving Mr. Murugiah Rajoo’s legacy, Komala Vilas remains dedicated to his original recipes, offering authentic traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine. This culinary tradition continues to be cherished by locals, expatriates, and tourists alike.
Once a while, go for authentic Indian vegetarian food, and one place I think of is Komala Vilas, though this is the first time I dined in, usually is takeout. We had our all time favourites Masala Thosai, Mysore Masala Thosai, n Vadai, and a huge OMG it’s so good moment (touches my mouth) sometimes I’m bored with Chinese food, next best thing is Indian food.

Amazing experience. Delicious indian vegetarian food. Eat as much as you want multi course starting with a soup. Home style food. Ending with a nice desert and a soft drink or a lassie along with it. The different part was you pay what you want. They will not tell you how much to pay. Good service staff serve you with a smile. You can buy sweets and Indian snacks too. A must visit.
Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I wasn't familiar with most of the food available, which was a great way to discover new dishes and flavors. Everyone was really nice and I didn't feel pressured to pay more than what I gave, which was $15.I think it was totally worth it because everything I ate was so flavorful and rich. Nothing like the Indian food you'd get at hawker centers. I will definitely come back!
Great food and a wonderful concept. It is vegetarian buffet Indian restaurant. You eat as much as you like than pay what you think it is worth. The proceeds from the restaurant go to help different social causes in rural India. What a fabulous idea, with fantastic staff and scrumptious food. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Singapore whether you are vegetarian or not. I highly recommend.
Gayatri Restaurant
Address: Address: 122 Race Course Rd, #01-01, Singapore 218583
Phone: +65 6291 1011
Website: gayatrirestaurant.com

At Gayatri, savor a medley of flavors as diverse as the landscape of India itself. Delve into a rich array of creamy curries, including the red-hot Fish Head Curry, featuring the head of a red snapper cooked in a South Indian curry stew with assorted vegetables. The tandoori-cooked meats, infused with smoky and fragrant notes, are a must-try. Highly recommended is the Tandoori Platter, showcasing generous portions of charcoal-grilled chicken tikka, tandoori prawns, and fish tikka. Complete your meal with flavorful veggie sides like the Gobi Fry, where cauliflower is batter-dipped and deep-fried for an added crunch.
I was recommended this place for an authentic Indian meal and some great curries and did not disappoint. It is a big restaurant with kitchen on show so you can see the staff prepare teas, breads and some other dishes which is entertaining to watch. I was there on a weekday for dinner and It got quite busy and loud which made it a great atmosphere.
For an Indian restaurant to do well in Singapore's Little India, it must serve delicious authentic dishes. Gayatri is one of them. There are many locally unique dishes found here, such as the fish head curry. The curries are not too spicy hot. The restaurant is clean, ornate and big. The service is friendly.
This is my go-to resto when I crave for authentic Indian food.Food is really sumptuous, the paneer is highly recommended (we order this every time) and the briyani set is really delicious (i love the rice and the veggies!) and price is cheap! Service is also excellent as the staff are friendly and serving of food is quick. This is highly recommended all in all!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gayatri Indian restaurant and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of the establishment. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with soft lighting and traditional decor that made me feel right at home.

First time visit in Sep 2023. Never get to try Song of India but thankfully they opened ADDA. Butter chicken and tandoori was good. Pani puri was all right but their interesting presentation makes it fun to enjoy. Overall dining experience and service was good, recommend for good & affordable Indian meal.
A recommend if you want to try Indian food for the first time because it is kind of fusion, the taste is easy to handle, I could say it was tasty. Nice deco but the music was too noisy. Food were unique and delicious but the tindle pot pie was kind of weird taste. Butter nan with the sauce was very flavourful. The portion was huge. The chef was friendly, he came to each tables to get reviews about our experience while dining. Will come back to try other dishes if I’m around area.
MANAM

“MANAM’ represents emotions far beyond words. It captures the sheer joy of food – from faithful adherence to age-old home recipes to the careful curation of the freshest ingredients, from the pans of the finest chefs to plates of tantalizing aromas that envelop the mind and soul. MANAM don’t just serve great food – they create the ultimate South Indian experience of days gone by. Drawing from the rich culinary heritage of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Belgaum, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Telangana. MANAM invokes the nostalgia of rural South India – with hand-crushed spices, sun-dried chilies, fresh farm animals, clear rushing spring water, and the sounds of happiness and laughter across warm hearths and open doors.
Manam is definitely the best Indian restaurant I had so far. It’s cosy and the manager Mani provided excellent service. The price-performance is high even though the price is a little to the high side but the quality is top-notch! My friend and I are small eaters therefore can’t try much of the food. Therefore, we are already planning to go again with our friends soon.
Really enjoyed our dinner at Manam. Unique menu offering that you don't see at other establishment. They pride themselves on their ingredients and no MSG. The spices packed a punch, do check in when ordering if you have low tolerance to spice. The space is cozy and limited, reservation is highly recommended. Overall a very good experience.

Damn awesome south indian food. Hearty portions for when I am feeling really hungry. Had a mango lassi as well and it was thick, fragrant and really delicious. Ordered mutton and fish. Not as cheap as before but ok lah nicely renovated and food quality got even better. Will come for my indian food fix !
Visited this place today for lunch. This restaurant serves South Indian food ; vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Both types of meals are very tasty with adequate portions. The meals are not over spiced with chilli ; great authentic home cooked flavours come through. The staff are very helpful and polite. I visit Gandhi restaurant every time I make a trip to Singapore. This restaurant never disappoints. Highly recommended!
I like this food because it's very naturally done with no flavour enhancers. It's very delicious 😋 and the spices are just right. You can see people queuing up for take outs which shows how sumptuous all the dishes are. I would truly and surely recommend this south Indian cuisine to all as the price is reasonable compared to big names around little India. All would simply love it.

Best Indian cuisine restaurant in Singapore 🇸🇬. Authentic Indian taste. Very Fast service. Cleanliness. Reasonable rates. Great taste of their speciality...South Indian dishes....👌🏼👌🏼 We went there for breakfast...all that we ordered had excellent taste....even the tea is served South Indian style in steel glasses. We loved this restaurant....Highly recommended...👌🏼🙂👍🏻
Amazing food and reasonably priced. I ordered south Indian meal and my Chinese friend had ordered for hot and spicy Andhra dosa. He loved the dosa and I loved the authority of south Indian meal taste. The meal was very appropriate with varieties, sweet and dahi. Bill with two drinks added, came to 24.However the waiters are not organised and hence the efficiency suffers. Can be done better
Muthu's Curry

Muthu’s Curry, an esteemed name in Singapore’s culinary landscape, has evolved significantly since its modest inception in 1969. In its nascent stage, Muthu’s Curry offered a modest selection of traditional Indian dishes, notably including the pioneering creation of Mr. Ayyakkannu: the South Indian Style Fish Head Curry. While their menu has expanded to encompass a myriad of popular Indian dishes, they remain steadfast in their commitment to preserving the essence of Chettinadu cuisine—abounding with the freshest seafood, succulent meats, and aromatic spices. Amidst these transformations, two constants endure: the enduring popularity of their Fish Head Curry and their unwavering dedication to service excellence.
What an amazing institution this is. Some of the best south Indian food I have ever eaten. Intense, spicy, vibrant sauces. Definitely do not miss this restaurant while in Singapore. The legendary fish head was fantastic, but the masala prawns was the best dish on my table. The flower crab was excellent too. Damn I need to get back here and do this again.
Punjab Grill

Dining at Punjab Grill is akin to embarking on an epicurean voyage through the richly diverse Northwest Frontier Province of undivided Punjab. From gourmet hubs like Lahore, Peshwar, Rawalpindi, Kabul, Amritsar, Multan, and Patiala, emerged urbanized melting pots of various cultures, each contributing to the culinary tapestry of the region. These vibrant cities and cultures serve as the muse for our menus at Punjab Grill, Singapore. Here, the extensive menu bridges the everyday delights of “sarson da saag” (a vegetarian curry made of mustard greens and spices) and “makki di roti” (a flat, unleavened bread made of corn flour) with the clandestine recipes of royal kitchens, all infused with a touch of panache and modernity.
I had dinner at Punjab Grill today with family. Food was awesomely delicious. Restaurant's ambience is great. Staff is super friendly. We order few dishes like pani puri & papdi chat, both were mouth watering. Butter chicken and rogen josh were melt in mouth. For dessert we ordered rasmalai and pan flavoured ice cream. Overall we enjoyed our meal and definitely will visit again.

Tried Aleppey fish curry. The fish was cooked perfectly and the curry had just the right amount of spice. I also tried their fish tikka which was equally delicious. The service was great and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine.

Had Sunday brunch at Gabbar's. By far, one of the best indian restaurants I have been to in a while. Loads of options at an affordable fare. And the unlimited pani puris are the icing on the cake! The Parle G biscuit with the "cutting" chai was a nice touch as well. Overall, a must try for anyone who is craving for a taste of authentic Maharashtrain food
The place in Singapore to have Indian food. I dined with my family and ordered Kababs, Paneer Tikka, Malai Chicken, Galouti Kebab and Fish Tikka. All the dishes were very well made and taste was amazing. Didn’t miss India while dining at Gabbar. Mr. Raj was the perfect host and look forward to visit Gabbar again
Amazing View..Good Spot for spending time with Family & Friends...The Indian food served is good We tried North Indian as well as Indo Chinese dishes...Their Peanut Masala is a must try if you are spice / chaat lover...Didn't expect such a taste in Singapore...A bit on expensive side possibly due to the location
We keep coming back to this modern Indian restaurant Gabbar at Clarke Quay. Their bottomless brunch is always a hit with the free flow of Pani Puri / Gol Gappas. I absolutely enjoyed their latest menu which includes chicken tikka, chicken tacos, pav bhaji, vada pav and of course their paan ice cream that is a must order.
